How To Prevent Moh

Why Was Excedrin Migraine Pulled From Shelves

Overcoming MOH is not fun, though, and it makes managing Migraine just a little bit harder. Avoiding MOH in the first place is clearly the best option.

To reduce the risk of MOH, youll probably want more than one acute treatment in your arsenal. Alternating your triptan with a naproxen-based anti-inflammatory medication is beneficial because it prevents you from overdoing it on one certain type of medication, said headache specialist Dr. Thomas Berk during a special event for the American Migraine Foundation

Still, you dont want to take those more than 15 days a month because they can cause not only rebound headache but gastritis and kidney disease as well, said Berk. Pay attention to the recommended use instructions on the bottles. These medications are meant to be used as needed due to these risks.

Excedrin Overuse: Too Much Of A Good Thing

Excedrin is one of the top drugs people use on their own, but it can lead to trouble with overuse, says Dr. Murinova. This is a drug that, if people are taking it 10 days a month or more, they can get into a condition called medication overuse headache, she says. If a person is treating three or more headaches a week with Excedrin and have stress, they could very easily be causing themselves to have more headaches.

In addition to more headaches, long-term use of Excedrin or a replacement combination on a frequent basis can also result in damage to kidneys, liver, and stomach, according to Tariq. Patients who take Excedrin or combine drugs as a replacement for Excedrin should not use them frequently, he adds.

Excedrin Sold Out As Manufacturer Stops Production

When will Excedrin return to the shelves?

Excedrin Extra Strength and Excedrin Migraine tablets will be temporarily unavailable due to inconsistencies in how the ingredients are weighed.

Now, local pharmacies are seeing a shortage of the drug.

According to the American Migraine Foundation, Local drug stores, like Mayo Pharmacy, are going to be unable to order the drug for the time being.

Pharmacists say their supplier is on back order for every form of Excedrin besides Excedrin for Tension headaches, which doesn’t include caffeine.

Experts say migraine sufferers won’t be able to get their hands on the drug after it’s off the shelves until production has restarted. However, there are other options for people with headaches.

“Fortunately for people using Excedrin, maybe now is the time to try the generic because it’s equivalent ingredients, but just not the fancy label,” said pharmacist and Owner of Mayo Pharmacy Kevin Martian.

In one caplet of Excedrin, there is 250 milligrams of acetaminophen, 250 milligrams of aspirin and 65 milligrams of caffeine. Martian says you can take the equivalent amount of Tylenol, Aspirin and caffeine for the same effect as Excedrin.

One Less Item On The Market Means Fewer Choices For Americans Who Rely On The Medicine To Power

GlaxoSmithKline announced earlier this week that it has temporarily halted production of Excedrin Migraine and Excedrin Extra Strength, two of its most popular drugs to treat migraines and headaches.

Citing a precautionary measure with inconsistencies in how we transfer and weigh ingredients, the pharmaceutical giant explained that while it was a nation-wide issue, the drug should be available again in the future.

While GlaxoSmithKline does not believe there is a risk to the general public, one less item on the market means fewer choices for Americans who rely on the medicine to power-through often painful and debilitating migraines.

Understanding the impact of migraines

According to the Migraine Research Foundation, as the third most prevalent illness in the world, migraines affect 1 in 4 U.S. households. Most common between the ages of 18 and 44, migraine sufferers affect 18% of American women, 6% of men and 10% of children. Many sufferers cite a diminished quality of life, and anxiety as to when their next migraine may occur.

‘where Is My Excedrin’

Sept. 17, 2012 — The Excedrin recall in January was a big headache, and not just for its manufacturer. Since then, customers loyal to the brand have been searching high and low for the product — and anxiously awaiting its return.

Now, there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Excedrin Migraine is due back on store shelves by early October, says Milicent Brooks of Novartis, its producer. Other products involved in the recall will roll out after that.

Novartis had recalled it voluntarily, along with Bufferin, Gas-X, and No-Doz, because the products may have contained stray tablets from other Novartis products or from painkillers produced at the same plant. The recall followed a report from the FDA about production and other practices at the plant.

Collier Officials Hope To Fix Gaping Hole On Us 41 By Wednesday

Around 433,600 bottles of Excedrin products are being recalled because some of the bottles may have a hole in the bottom.

The plastic bottles pose a poisoning risk, if theres a hole, because a child may be able to get the caplets and swallow the painkillers.

GSK Consumer Health issued the recall for five types of Excedrin products toward the end of December 2020.

Consumers should immediately check Excedrin bottles to see if there is a hole at the bottom. If there isnt a hole, the consumers can keep the over-the-counter medicine, according to the recall.

The recall covers 50, 80, 100, 125, 200, 250 and 300-count bottles of Excedrin Migraine Caplets, Excedrin Migraine Geltabs, Excedrin Extra Strength Caplets, Excedrin PM Headache Caplets, and Excedrin Tension Headache Caplets. The drugs were sold nationwide and online from March 2018 through September 2020.

The recall notice posted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said because Excedrin contains aspirin and acetaminophen it must be in child resistant packaging as required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act .

If there is a hole, consumers should contact GSK Consumer Relations for information on how to receive a prepaid shipping label for return to receive a full refund. You can contact GSK Consumer Relations at 800-468-7746 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or online at Excedrins website and click on the safety issue banner at the top of the page for more information.

Two Excedrin Products Are Temporarily Discontinued Company Says

Pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline says it has temporarily discontinued two types of Excedrin items as a precautionary measure.

The company has suspended production and distribution of its Excedrin Extra Strength and Excedrin Migraine products, it said.

Through routine quality control and assurance measures, we discovered inconsistencies in how we transfer and weigh ingredients for Excedrin Extra Strength Caplets and Geltabs, and Excedrin Migraine Caplets and Geltabs, it said in a statement to CNN.

The company does not believe that the product poses a safety risk to consumers but has voluntarily implemented the measure as a precaution, it said.

We are working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, but at this point in time cannot confirm a definite date as to when supply will resume, it said. Other Excedrin products are available along with other pain-relieving drugs, but dosages may differ. Consumers should consult their pharmacist for the most suitable alternative product.

GlaxoSmithKline described it as a short term issue, saying it expects production to resume shortly.

Although there were complaints that caused the recall, the company has stated that there were no incidents reported as a result of the problems with the products. The recall was a precautionary method to assess and investigate the claims made by Excedrins consumers.

Mixing of different products in the same bottle could result in consumers taking the incorrect product and receiving a higher or lower strength than intended or receiving an unintended ingredient, said Novartis. This could potentially result in overdose, interaction with other medications a consumer may be taking, or an allergic reaction if the consumer is allergic to the unintended ingredient.

We called some local pharmacies to ask if they had any Excedrin left and the handful we reached out to all said they had none.

Pharmacies like CVS, Walmart, and Walgreens have generic brands in their stock that have been substitutes for some of Excedrins products. Advil, Ibuprofen and Motrin have also served as alternatives for the migraine and headache pills.

The only way that you can get Excedrin is by finding the drug in single-dose packets though there are some for sale online if you look around.

Two Popular Excedrin Medications Temporarily Discontinued

Two varieties of the popular pain medication Excedrin have been temporarily discontinued by the manufacturer as a precautionary measure, a decision that will impact some people with migraine and/or chronic pain.

Drug company GlaxoSmithKline announced Wednesday it temporarily pulled Excedrin Extra Strength and Excedrin Migraine from distribution due to inconsistencies in how transfer and weigh ingredients, according to CNN. Though no safety issues have been reported as a result of the issues the company discovered, they temporarily halted production and distribution of the drugs while correcting the issues.

Its not the first time Excedrin has been pulled from shelves. A 2012 recall also took the medication temporarily out of circulation after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration discovered there was a risk some of the medication was contaminated with opioids.

Migraine is difficult to treat effectively, and often, people use a combination of prescription and over-the-counter medications to manage their symptoms. The discontinuation of Excedrin Migraine, even temporarily, is a major blow for those who rely on it for the debilitating condition.

According to GlaxoSmithKline, the discontinuation of Excedrin Extra Strength and Excedrin Migraine will be short-term and encouraged those who rely on the medications to consult with their pharmacist or doctor for other options in the meantime.

Two Popular Excedrin Products Pulled From Shelves Amid Fears Of Poorly Measured Ingredients

Two Excedrin products have been pulled from shelves over fears the ingredients may have been measured improperly.

Pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline, which makes the tablets, announced on Wednesday that it was halting production of Excedrin Extra Strength and Excedrin Migraine.

Its currently unclear which ingredients acetaminophen, aspirin and caffeine the company is concerned about or when the issue was discovered.

However, the wrong dosage could leave users with heartburn, ulcers liver damage, and/or stomach bleeding.

Officials say they dont believe the drugs pose a safety risk, but that the move is merely a precaution.
