I wrote the book that I needed, because it didnt exist! My neurologist gave me a 3-page handout that simply listed foods in a dont list. It didnt explain why, or how, or how long to try it. At that time, I was having daily headaches, and 3-5 days of migraine symptoms a week, including wicked vertigo. So I was motivated to find a solution that didnt rely solely on prescriptions.

Rickettsia Honei Flinders Island Spotted Fever

An acute illness clinically resembling SFG rickettsiosis was described in 1991 by Stewart, the only medical doctor among approximately 1000 inhabitants on Flinders Island, a small island off the southeastern coast of Australia near Tasmania. Fever, headache, , slight cough, and a maculopapular rash gave the practitioner reason to suspect rickettsial infection. Serological analysis, including the Weil-Felix agglutination and rickettsial-specific immunoflu-orescence tests, suggested that the causative agent was a member of the SFG. At that time, the only spotted fever known in Australia was QTT, so all observed cases were considered as QTT, although clinical and epidemiological differences were noted when compared to original cases. Twenty-six cases of a seasonal, febrile rash illness were observed over 12 years. Nitrate Or Nitrite Elimination And Migraine

There is debate about whether excluding vegetables that are high in nitrates or nitrites from ones diet is necessary, partly because the nitrate/nitrite content can vary widely depending on varietal and growing and soil conditions. Even reliable sources have dramatic differences in their lists of foods high in nitrates/nitrites, resulting in an overwhelming list. I have included the vegetables with the highest levels in the list above. Other possible high nitrate/nitrite vegetables include: arugula, bok choi, chervil, celery, celeriac , cress, cucumber, endive, fennel, green beans, kohlrabi, leeks, lettuce, lima beans, melon, parsley. To keep a nutritionally balanced diet, I do not recommend attempting to restrict these vegetables in your first elimination diet. If you decide to restrict them in the future, please work with a dietician to make sure you do not become malnourished.

That said, there’s scientific evidence that suggests migraines may be triggered by certain foods. But actually you were starting to have a migraine attack when the cravings started and the cravings were the warning sign.

The same could be true for other triggers. If you are more sensitive to light in the warning stage, you might think bright lights are a trigger. If you are more sensitive to smells, you might think certain scents are a trigger.

When the illness progressed to the paralytic form, muscle soreness was prominent, particularly in the back and neck. Being aware of foods, drinks and most importantly, the ingredients and chemicals that have been reported as headache triggers can be a helpful tool, a good starting point. Keep in mind that headache triggers vary from person to person. Also understand that pinpointing a headache trigger goes far beyond food/drink products that may have been consumed in the hours or even days before the headache started. So many other factors influence the occurrence of a headache.

So then, what can you do to lower your chance of headache? The best approach may be to begin to control known influencers of headache. A family history of headaches is something you cannot control. Only cut out a food if you have a high suspicion it causes headaches, otherwise you might remove foods you enjoy! In this diary, also track other factors that occurred within 24 hours of the headache . With all of this information in hand, you can begin to sort out and discover for yourself the factors that provoke your headache.
