Processed foods, high in histamine, nitrates, and nitrites, can trigger migraines.

Histamine is a natural compound in your body that helps initiate immune and inflammatory responses . It also interacts with the central nervous system and may affect your bodys migraine response .

Foods high in histamine are processed meat, dairy, and fish, and fermented foods including beer and wine .

In healthy individuals, histamine is quickly detoxified by the enzyme amine oxidase . Those with low amine oxidase activity have a higher risk of histamine toxicity. Excess histamine can cause numerous allergy-like symptoms and headaches.

Nitrates, Nitrites, and Migraines

Nitrates and nitrites are used as food preservatives added to processed meat to prevent microbial growth. Processed foods containing nitrates can trigger migraines possibly by causing blood vessels to expand .

Limiting processed foods is inexpensive and low-risk migraine prevention.

Chinese Reflexology Point For The Face

If you are experiencing headache or migraine pain in your face, the Chinese Reflexology point for the face is a good one to massage. The top of your big toe corresponds to your face, all the way from your forehead to your neck.

Since its not convenient or recommended to massage the toenail, this point is best for just below the eyes, in your cheeks, the jaw area and the front of your face. Use your thumb to rub the top of your big toe, side to side, working your way from the base of the toenail to the base of the toe. When you get to the bottom of the toe, start again at the top. Repeat for 30 to 60 seconds.

Pressure Points In The Hand And Wrist

You can also try pressing on tender spots in your hands to see if it helps your head pain. The spots shown in Figure 7-9 are considered by many to be headache pressure points. At worst, pressing on these points will help your hands feel better.

If any of these spots are tender, press and hold for three breaths, relax, and repeat up to three times. You can repeat every hour as needed.

If you find other tender spots in your hand, work on them as well. If a spot is tender, its a sign that the tissue is not happy. Relieve the tenderness with the press-and-hold technique. This helps get the fluids flowing in your tissues, thereby facilitating their healing. Treating these pressure points may also help your headache.

Other spots that may alleviate your headache are on the palm and wrist .

Figure 710 : Pressure points to relieve headaches found in the wrist

I find the most common tender spot for headache suffers is in the web of the hand between your thumb and forefinger .

A foot massage also never hurts. If anything, it will help alleviate your headache in addition to making you generally feel better.

Pressure Points For Migraines

The great thing about reflexology is that you can use these techniques to treat the problems externally as well as internally. In fact, you can get rid of your ailments completely if you stimulate those pressure points regularly. The idea behind stimulating pressure points is to clear the blocked meridians, which in turn helps energy to flow freely through the body. This will also lead to the production of endorphins that act as natural painkillers in your body.

Here are the most common pressure points for migraine:

1. Forehead Region

There are several points on your forehead and face, and all of them are yang points and are full of energy as well. Stimulating these points will make energy to flow downwards and help you find relief from aches and pains.

Third Eye Point

One of many points along your forehead is a point where the bridge of your nose joins the ridge of your eyebrows. Stimulating this point will offer relief from headaches, eye pain, eye fatigue, and hay fever.

Drilling Bamboo

In the inner corner of your eyes is another pressure point that helps find relief from allergy symptoms and sinus headaches. It is precisely located below the eyebrows, and stimulating it will also help improve vision. Be sure to apply pressure for at least a minute on both sides.

2. Temple Region

3. Face Region Facial Beauty

4. Neck Region

6 Pressure Points for Headaches that Provide Relief in ...

Theres nothing like a throbbing head to wreck your day. But instead of reflexively reaching for a pill, you could actually help your body heal itself: In traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture and acupressure have been used for pain management for thousands of years, and it looks like Western science may finally be catching on to this approach. Science is showing more and more that the stimulation of certain pressure points can affect the neural fibers in the brain as well as the peripheral nervous system, says Paul Robison, a licensed acupuncturist in Washington, D.C., and the founder of Flourish Health Arts. A review of studies published in 2016 in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, for instance, found that acupuncture was effective in helping treat patients with frequent or chronic tension-type headaches. And a study published in 2017 in JAMA Internal Medicine found that acupuncture not only helps get rid of a migraine, it can also reduce the frequency that people have them.

Acupuncture involves inserting needles along specific pathways, called meridians, which may stimulate the bodys healing process. Acupressure stimulates the same pressure points but relies on fingers instead of needles to apply pressure. Its all about releasing tension and restoring balance in the body, Robison says.

Headaches — especially those brought on by anxiety, the common cold or menstruation — are caused by a tightness and stiffness in the neck and face muscles that inhibit blood circulation. Stimulating the pressure points by massaging them will help relax the tight muscles and increase blood circulation, thus relieving the headache .

Another study of 100 people found significant weather sensitivity in small subgroups . But there wasnt a significant association in the entire 100 participants. The researchers argued that weather cannot be used to predict migraine attacks in the general population of people with migraines.
