How To Hold Off Migraines
Take these steps to help stave off a migraine after you eat:
Choose better food. Eat as much wholesome, fresh food, like fruits and vegetables, as you can. Avoid processed and packaged foods.
Eat more âminiâ meals. Instead of three large meals each day, opt for five or six small ones. This will prevent you from getting a headache because youâre hungry. Youâre also less likely to eat a lot of a single food that could trigger a migraine.
Drink plenty of water. To stay hydrated, sip at least eight glasses of water each day.
Less Than Ideal Strawberries
A box of strawberries can go bad quickly. Even the ripest and most well preserved fruits will not last long, especially in room temperature. Refrigeration is not always going to help. As already mentioned, picking the freshest of strawberries is paramount. Taking a look at the box below, we see clear signs of deterioration. When one or more strawberries start to spoil, the entire batch can go bad very quickly.
Not a very good-looking candidate
As can be seen, the strawberry above is showing a fair amount of deterioration. The outside has gone from dark red to pink in many areas. In addition, some spoilage is already visible. It has lost some of its natural form. Even without looking at the inside of this particular one, we should probably discard but lets quickly take a look.
Cutting through the strawberry, there are clear signs of over-ripeness and worse yet, spoilage. The outer edges are almost entirely translucent across the fruit. In one of the pieces, we can see the orange color clearly visible. The white center has diminished demonstrably in size. The safe bet is to discard and move on.

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine has created the Migraine Diet, a vegan based plan that is designed to help prevent migraines and minimize migraine pain. They have compiled a list of pain safe foods that almost never contribute to migraines:
- Rice brown rice preferably, but white rice is good too
- Cooked or steamed green vegetables spinach, collards, broccoli, and Swiss chard
- Cooked or steamed orange vegetables sweet potatoes and carrots
- Cooked or steamed yellow vegetables summer squash
- Dried or cooked non -citrus fruits cranberries, prunes, cherries, pears
- Water plain or carbonated
- Condiments vanilla extract, maple syrup, limited amounts of salt
Bread Grains And Cereals
- most cereals, except for those containing nuts, dried fruits, or aspartame
- plain or sesame seed bagels
- quick bread, such as pumpernickel or zucchini bread
- most plain pretzels and potato chips
- unflavored crackers, such as saltines or Club crackers
- white, wheat, rye, or pumpernickel bread from a store
Foods to avoid:
- flavored crackers, such as cheddar cheese crackers
- fresh bread that is homemade or from a grocers bakery
- pizza, as it is also a fresh bread
- highly flavored or seasoned chips
- soft pretzels
- food preservatives, such as nitrates, nitrites, MSG, and artificial sweeteners
- smoked fish
- yeast extract
Not eating anything at all can also lead to an increased incidence of migraines. For some people, prolonged hunger and not eating enough are known headache triggers. This may be due to a link between low blood sugar levels and worsening migraine headaches.

If one of your favorite things about summer is loading up on fresh fruit, you’re definitely not alone. But when it comes to the often mysterious phenomenon of migraine headaches, researchers in Brazil have tested a migraine theory to identify nine fruits to avoid for anyone who’s sensitive to serious headaches. We have the list of all nine, ranked by their migraine trigger frequency.
The research team was composed of four neurology and nutrition pros who work at Brazilian universities or hospitals. The scientists designed the fruit migraine study on the premise that some foods have been recognized as migraine triggers, even though the mechanism behind this is not well understood. Past research had also looked at the effect on scents on migraine, with one study finding that perfume, paint, gasoline, and bleachin that orderwere significant migraine-triggering odors.
The researchers for the current study wanted to examine some of the more aromatic everyday foods we eat to look for a similar effect. For some foods, the research abstract states, “There is evidence that they act on the pathogenesis of migraine, interfering with meningeal inflammation, vasodilation and cerebral glucose metabolism.” In other words, past research had pointed to how some foods may lead to migraines due to how they impact neurological system inflammation, blood vessel dilation , and the brain’s sugar metabolization.

This one seems to have the least amount of side effects listed. They include: anxiety, drowsiness, hyperactivity, restlessness, depression , hypotension, complete sedation, and some other things I cannot pronounce.

Can A Cup Of Blueberries Keep The Doctor Away
Maybe. A study in The Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics found that those people in the study, saw an average 5.1% decrease in systolic blood pressure and a 6.3% decrease in diastolic pressure. Half ate 22 grams of freeze-dried blueberry powder daily for 8 weeks. The others consumed an identical-looking and tasting placebo. Levels of nitric oxide, known to be involved in relaxing and widening blood vessels increased significantly in the blueberry eaters. There were no significant changes in the placebo group.
The scientists write that the improvement was moderate compared with that of blood pressure medicines. But, they say, eating blueberries in larger amounts or for longer periods could increase the effect.
Sarah A. Johnson, the lead author, and a postdoctoral researcher at Florida State University said she saw no reason for people to radically change their diet, but that if they are not eating blueberries, they might want to try them. There is something very special about the composition of blueberries that is responsible for their effect on blood pressure, she said. Other fruits and plant extracts have not produced the same result.
